I was very intrigued when I stumbled onto Elegant Themes homepage and found an amazing gallery of over thirty themes. The newest, which is On the Go is a premium Wordpress theme that stands out as artistic, colorful, and beautiful. The theme looks hand drawn and almost like a website made out of the work of a graffiti artist, but in a very elegant way.

Content Display: Most of the content on the demo of On The Go looks like it is hand drawn. The content looks amazing, the content slider is absolutely one of a kind. The slider is so responsive and fast, it feels like you are in hyperdrive. The artistic styling of every detail of the content display from the navigation all the way to the footer is truly remarkable. Every section of the website features some sort of specific design element that creates a truly remarkable unique look to this theme. The detail is amazing.

Navigation: The navigation for On The Go rocks. The main navigation is located at the top of the browser and features hand drawn aspects around it, creating an enjoyable navigation bar around it. The rest of the navigation for the widgets is below the main content area (that only features a single post and the content slider on top) and is widget based along the bottom of the footer. White clouds on a dark background with hand drawn lines around each of the navigation boxes creates an awesome element of uniqueness.

Sidebar: The sidebar does not exist in a typical sense on this theme. However it is present. On the right hand side of the main content (below the content slider) is a three tab quick navigation box. Featuring an Ajax interface, there is a recent posts, popular posts, and random posts tab. Nice and colorful, this section features miniature thumbnails from the posts and has a very unique look to it (even from the rest of the theme). The mini sidebar approach works great here, something I usually do not like in a web design, I am surprisingly ok with the look of this one.

Overall: Overall, I am in love with this theme. Elegant Themes has an amazing portfolio of over 30 premium templates that cost only a yearly fee of $19.95 per year, you have access to some of the most unique and beautiful themes on the internet. You are able to download any of the themes as much as you want in that time, and can cancel before your second year without getting charged.

On The Go features compatibility for every major browser (including Opera and Netscape even), an optional blog style theme structure (instead of the single post), threaded comments, widget based sidebar, and an advertising plugin.

I completely recommend Elegant Themes  as probably one of the best available theme resources on the net right now and a bargain of a price at less than $20 a year for unlimited access to all of their themes.

Postcard DEMO

Woo Themes latest design is Postcard, a wonderfully designed travel centric theme that is a mix between a magazine styled theme and personal blog.

Content Display: Postcard is a beautiful tan colored theme that features a unique header with a postcard logo and stamps and other things in a faded background. This theme is very basic, however it works as the theme is about the story and color of the photographs of the blogger’s travel.

The theme is setup in a very unique way, and almost feels not like a Wordpress blog at all. The content is king and a large photograph and the latest travel postcard (hence the name “Postcard”) are promptly displayed in a content slider at the top of the page. Down the left hand column is the latest blog posts, while the right hand column (of equal width with the left column) is featuring widgets that are available with the theme, Google Maps, Tweets, and Flickr being the three most prominent.

Navigation: The navigation works great on Postcard, with the most recent content being the headline, the navigation does a good job of not getting in the way of what people are really looking for. There is a header navigation bar that features the pages links along the top of the browser that does a good job not to be to attention getting. The content slider features arrows and does not automatically rotate. What would be the usual sidebar navigation is actually at the bottom of the page and plays less of a role in Postcard than it does in other themes.

Sidebar: The sidebar on Postcard is the same width as the main blog column, however it features a lot of great features in such a small space. Woo Themes probably has the best developer widgets that they include with their premium themes, including the Flickr, Twitter, and Google Maps mentioned above. The sidebar is widget ready, allowing for custom widgets to be installed into Postcard. With the column being so wide, the developer can actually choose a wide column or half column, depending on the widget.

Overall: Featuring an integrated image gallery, custom widgets, Google Maps geo-tagging (for photos at taken at specific locations), and nine (9) different color themes from the one that I reviewed in this theme to a slick black theme, you are basically getting a completely customizable theme for a great price. Postcard is available for $70 for the standard edition and for $150 for developer. The Woo Themes special of 3-for-1 is always available and a great offer.

Woo Themes has done it again. With one of the best track records of creating unique,  useful, and beautiful designs, Woo Themes has created a great niche design that will work great for a lot of Wordpress users.

Overview: Arthemia is a beautiful theme. Period. The theme features great use of typography to simply make a fantastic looking theme that is beautiful to look at and easy on the eyes.

Navigation: The navigation of Arthemia features a nice top bar navigation bar that contains the main navigation links to pages or other parts of your site that you believe belongs on the top bar. The bar features a dark grey background with light text which makes it contrast very nicely with the rest of the website and really stick out. The navigation is simple and also features the search on the far right side that allows for a consistent navigation experience.

The categories are below the headline and featured articles in Arthemia and it works surprisingly well. The feature large text and colorful bars over top of them. The navigation is very unique here and having a description of the category is a must in this theme as it really adds a full look to your content and makes it stand out in the categories section.

Advertisement: This theme does not support as many advertisements by default, mostly because they will definitely detract from the beauty of the design. However the theme does support a 468×60px banner advertisement above the navigation bar which is a usual placement for banner ads. There are places you would normally have an advertisement in Arthemia however the author just did not specify them so you could easy add some ads without taking to much away from the theme.

Content Display: The content on Arthemia is displayed very uniquely. The headline article is very prominently placed and features a big title and all the date and view information, which is a very cool touch. Beside the headline is the featured post sections featuring four articles and their thumbnails. All of the content is displayed with class and really shows through.

Below the categories section is the other most recent articles from the different categories. The category is listed above it and the titles are again in a perfect shade of blue and the thumbnails are yet again a different size, but everything just seems to work.

Sidebar: The sidebar features by default two mini columns or one larger column and is very simple to use. Here is where some more advertisements could be placed without taking to much away from the rest of the theme. The tags, categories, blogroll, and recent coments can all be displayed here and the layout on the default demo theme looks very good.

Conclusion: Arthemia is probably one of the best free (or premium) Wordpress themes I have ever seen. The color scheme of white, grey, and blue mixes perfectly with the simplicity of the design. The designer put a lot of work into all of the details of this theme and it shows. For a free theme, we give it a 9/10.
